Notifications

Control when, how, and which notifications DevBar delivers to macOS.

Global Toggle

All DevBar notifications are controlled by a single master switch: Settings → Notifications → Enable OS Notifications. Turning this off suppresses every banner, sound, and badge — regardless of per-platform settings.

macOS permission required: DevBar must be allowed to send notifications in System Settings → Notifications → DevBar. See Troubleshooting if notifications are not appearing.

Per-Severity Sounds

DevBar groups notifications into three severity tiers, each with its own sound picker in Settings → Notifications → Sounds.

Critical Alerts

Default: Critical sound

Played for PagerDuty incidents, OpsGenie alerts, and Datadog ALERT-severity monitors.

Warnings

Default: Standard sound

Played for CI failures, deployment failures, and stack drift.

Info

Default: Standard sound

Played for PR reviews, workflow triggers, and app updates.

Per-Platform Toggles

Each platform's settings panel (Settings → Integrations → [Platform]) exposes individual toggles for the following notification events:

PlatformEvents
GitHub / GitLabPR review requested, PR update, MR review, MR update
PagerDuty / OpsGenieIncident triggered, Incident resolved
DatadogMonitor alert, Monitor recovery
CircleCICI pass, CI fail
Railway / RenderDeployment success, Deployment failure
Terramate / Terraform CloudStack drift detected, Stack failure
GitHub ActionsWorkflow triggered
AWSAuth event
DevBarApp update available

Snooze

Right-click (or long-press on a trackpad) any notification banner to snooze that event type — not just the individual item. DevBar will suppress all notifications of that type for the chosen duration.

1 hour4 hoursUntil tomorrow
Note: Active snoozes are listed in Settings → Notifications → Snoozed Events. You can cancel a snooze early from there.

Focus Mode

Enable Focus Mode in Settings → General → Focus Mode. While active, DevBar suppresses all notifications except PagerDuty incidents, OpsGenie alerts, and Datadog ALERT-severity monitors. Everything else is silently dropped.

  1. 1Open Settings → General → Focus Mode.
  2. 2Toggle Focus Mode on.
  3. 3Choose a duration from the picker.
  4. 4Click Activate. A Focus Mode badge appears in the menu bar icon.

Daily Digest

The Morning Digest fires a single summary notification at a time you choose, so you start the day with context instead of a pile of banners.

Enable

Settings → Notifications → Morning Digest → toggle on.

Delivery hour

Pick any hour from 0 to 23 (24-hour clock). DevBar fires the digest within the first minute of that hour.

Contents

The digest shows pending PR count (reviews awaiting you) and open incident count at the time of delivery.

Notification Batching

When multiple events of the same type arrive within 2 seconds, DevBar collapses them into one notification instead of firing separate banners. For example, if 5 PRs request your review simultaneously, you see “5 PRs need your review” rather than 5 individual notifications.

Batching is automatic and always on. The 2-second window is not configurable. Opening the batched notification takes you to the filtered list for that event type inside DevBar.

Troubleshooting

If notifications are not appearing, notifications arrive late, or sounds are not playing, see the Notifications not working section of the Troubleshooting guide.
